Focus on the evil of the century: “Burnout is not only linked to work”

Concerning burn-out, you should know that a Securex survey reveals that one in four Belgian employees is threatened. This therefore concerns just over a million workers. Workers are also more affected because we are talking about one in three workers in this sector.

Burn-out, this evil of the century which continues to evolve negatively

“When it hits you, you don’t really see it coming,” says political communications expert Mike Willemaers, who has himself been affected by burnout. “For a few weeks, I just couldn’t get out of bed.” On the set, he adds: “Burnout is not only linked to work. It is a combination of everything we experience, everything that can affect us closely. It can be linked to family, lots of little worries and that prevents us from working.

This observation does not surprise lawyer Dany Spreutels either, who sees a link with the evolution of society and the world of work. “Today, the guideline is profit. And if we consider that we will earn more money by producing elsewhere and that it is appropriate to make transfers from part of society to the foreigner, it is obvious that employees feel fragile. It is then enough that there are additional problems in the employee’s circle that make him anxious and this can cause this burnout.
