Migrant aid associations in the sights of Bruno Retailleau

In an interview given to Figaro Magazine on October 3, Bruno Retailleau attacked migrant aid associations. According to him, their missions within the administrative detention centers (CRA) are more the responsibility of the State.

In the wake of Philippine’s rape and death, Bruno Retailleau intends to make several legislative proposals to reform the French immigration system. In an interview given to Figaro Magazine on October 3, the Minister of the Interior therefore attacked the associations which work within administrative detention centers (CRA).

CIMADE, Terre d’Asile, ASSFAM Groupe SOS Solidarités, Forum Refugees and Solidarité Mayotte, are the five migrant aid associations in the politician’s sights.

“I would like the State to be more demanding with regard to associations which intervene in CRA,” he declared in the pages of Figaro Magazine. “I consider that legal and social advice to people retained in the CRAs falls to the French Office of Immigration and Integration and not to the associations which are judge and party,” added Bruno Retailleau.

In fact, these associations share the mission of providing information and assistance in exercising the rights of migrants in administrative detention centers.

“A form of self-sabotage”

“The State entrusts the foreigners it wishes to remove to associations whose stated aim is to prevent the execution of immigration laws,” Nicolas Pouvreau-Monti, director of the Observatory, explained to CNEWS. immigration and demography. “So there is a form of self-sabotage on the part of the State when it entrusts this legal assistance to these associations,” he added.

Comments to which the honorary president of the Human Rights League returned. “The French Office of Immigration and Integration that Mr. Retailleau speaks of, depends on the Ministry of the Interior and that it would actually be judged to be party,” Patrick Baudouin explained to CNEWS. “As everyone knows, it is the prefects who make decisions to place foreigners in these detention centers. So it’s quite the opposite,” he added.

The tenant of Place Beauvau has made immigration his hobby horse since his appointment. For example, he has already announced his intention to reestablish the offense of illegal stay or to strengthen border controls.
