At the start of the Masters 1000 in Shanghai, where Stanislas Wawrinka and Gaël Monfils successfully entered the competition, journalist Frédéric Verdier spoke during the Winamax program “Sans Filet” about the gradual change of era on the ATP circuit.

“We are sad about the passing of time. In fact, there is only one on whom the years have almost no influence, and that is Djokovic. He’s 37 years old and he’s still overachieving. He can very well be in the final and win any tournament, that won’t surprise anyone, at least not me. But otherwise, all the others, and that’s normal: we see Gasquet who is struggling in Challenger to secure a place in the top 100, not sure that he will get it, Murray who is retiring, Wawrinka who wins a match of from time to time but which is 200e world, Fognini also for whom it is very hard. But all these guys have such a love of tennis, such talent and such professionalism, because it’s no small thing to be at 37 years old and still able to win matches. Despite everything, there is the weight of the years and we feel that it is inexorable. This generation that made us dream is in the process of bowing out, with more or less ease, but all with the love of tennis. »
