Employed as a sanitation manager at Montparnasse station in Paris, a 53-year-old woman was fired because she had collected a one-euro coin left as a tip by a customer.

Transfer for one euro. A female employee of the company 2theloo was fired after keeping a one euro coin left by a customer as a tip during her service in the public toilets at Montparnasse station in Paris, our colleagues at BFMTV.

Aged 57, this “lady pee” in office for six years was summoned by her employer last November, who initiated dismissal proceedings for “serious misconduct”.

Prohibition on receiving tips

“It’s a tip that the customer gave me […] They told me “for us it’s a theft”. I’m fired for one euro. It’s very hard, it’s a job that’s not easy because people shit on the floor. Finally, for one euro, they take me and throw me away like nothing”testified the employee on the microphone of the JT of France 2 last May 2.

His employer, 2theloo, retorts that he does not “does not work with a tipping system”. For ten years, the SNCF has entrusted this Dutch company with the sanitary facilities of around thirty stations. None of the approximately 200 employees she employs are allowed to receive tips. “It’s society that benefits, not us”confirms an anonymous employee to our colleagues.
