Sandra Felix, 57, is the new director of the Federal Office of Sport (OFSPO). Appointed on Friday by the Federal Council, she will take office on November 1 and will succeed Matthias Remund who wants to take on a new challenge.

Sandra Felix has a degree in business economics. After a career in the private sector and in the Graubünden public administration, she joined the OFSPO in 2017. She became its deputy director in 2021.

Through her education, professional background and experience, Sandra Felix clearly stood out during the recruitment process, said the head of the Federal Sports Department Viola Amherd. In particular, she has experience in operational and strategic management and is perfectly familiar with the Swiss sports system.

In anticipation of numerous international events in the coming years and possibly the Winter Olympics in 2038, Switzerland offers a unique setting, declared the Valaisanne. The new director announced a new encouragement program ranging from grassroots sport to major events. “Encouraging sport is an investment for the good of the population and the country,” she said.

Promotion of women

The department received 76 applications, thirteen of which were from women, said the federal councilor. Viola Amherd has repeatedly spoken out for more women in sports governing bodies. Sandra Felix will replace Matthias Remund who is leaving the OFSPO after almost 20 years as director.

Mr. Remund will leave at the end of October to become the new secretary general of the International University Sports Federation (FISU) from January 2025. FISU is particularly known as organizer of the Universiades, world sporting events for universities, which have held every two years.

Many milestones have marked his mandate: the 2008 European Football Championship in Switzerland and Austria, the total revision of the new law on the encouragement of sport or the signing of the Magglingen Convention against the manipulation of sports competitions .
