A man came to bring an old shell to a police station in Reinach (BL) on Monday morning. “Hello, I have something to give you,” the individual said quietly. He had placed the explosive device found in the cellar of “a third person”, specifies the police, in a gym bag.
As the munition was potentially dangerous, the police station had to be evacuated for 45 minutes, while a team of specialists from Bern took charge of the bomb.
The bomb squad found that the shell was disarmed and was therefore unlikely to explode. The authorities remind the population that they must be very careful with unexploded ordnance, officially called “duds”.
If such an object is found in nature, in a cellar or attic, it is strictly prohibited to keep it, recalls the Confederation on its website. Do not touch, mark the location and report are the right reflexes to have if you are faced with such a situation. In 2022, the Confederation recorded just over 1,000 reports of failures in Switzerland and eliminated more than 3,700 objects.
