authors will finally be able to track the sales of their books

Eight major players in the book industry came together to create Filéas (Bookstore information threads, publishers, authors).

It is a company dedicated to monitoring book sales and serving the inter-professional sector.
In 2019, we announced to you the upcoming arrival of Filéas in an interview. It took almost six years for this project to see the light of day.

Participants include the National Publishing Union (SNE), the Cercle de la Librairie, Dilicom, ADELC, SLF, ALIRE, CPE and SGDL.

The objectives and ambitions of Filéas

Filéas’ main mission is to guarantee better visibility on sales figures for printed and digital books from authors.

The objective is also to contribute to improving the economic and environmental efficiency of the book chain.

The company adopts the status of a mission company, emphasizing its general interest dimension and its deeply interprofessional character. A mission committee, made up of representatives of authors, publishers, booksellers and institutional partners, will ensure compliance with its commitments.

A sales tracking portal

Filéas will develop a portal dedicated to monitoring book sales, offering authors, publishers and distributors personalized access to sales data for their works.

Authors will be able to consult the service free of charge to find out the sales data for their books. Publishers, broadcasters and distributors will be able to subscribe to a subscription adapted to the size of their structure to consult their sales figures.

An interprofessional collaboration

The platform will rely on the sector’s existing tools, notably integrating the Electre Authors database and FEL data. It will offer two complementary sales indicators.
The first will be a weekly indicator, based on data collected by GfK. The second, daily, will be constructed from sales data from participating bookstores.

Effective launch in 2025

The first part of the site will be deployed in 2025 and presented during the next Book Festival in April.

Vincent Montagne, president of the SNE, declared during the constituent general assembly: “This project finds an outcome induced in the authors-publishers agreement of 2013. This seems very important to us. It is also a fantastic sign of solidarity from the sector. »

Filéas marks an important step in the transformation of the book industry.
This project will bring together its stakeholders and generalize access to sales data for better visibility and efficiency.
