The end of season 3 of “The Bridgerton Chronicles” surprised readers of Julia Quinn’s novels. The series has indeed made a change compared to the books, pushing the author to speak out on her social networks.

Released on Netflix on June 13, the end of season 3 of Bridgerton introduced a brand new character: Michaela Stirling, cousin of John Stirling, Francesca’s young husband. The latter seemed troubled by her meeting with the magnetic Michaela… who does not exist in Julia Quinn’s books. In the novels, Michaela is a man, Michael Stirling. And it is he that Francesca (then widowed) ends up marrying at the end of volume 6.

Julia Quinn reassures Bridgerton readers

The writers of the series therefore surprised all readers by changing the sex of Michael Stirling. Enough to offer a beautiful queer romance to the Bridgerton saga, as confirmed by showrunner Jess Brownell. But this change did not please all the adaptations of the novels.
