The screenplay is by Jo Spain and David Logan, with Hannah Quinn directing. Announced almost a year ago, this adaptation will be broadcast in just under two weeks.

Series in four 60-minute episodes, The shadow of a son follows the slow deterioration of the relationship between Harry and Robin, a couple struck by the disappearance of their son, Dillon, during an earthquake in Essaouira, Morocco.

Despite their mourning and their move to Dublin three years later, their lives are turned upside down when Harry thinks he sees Dillon on a station platform. Consumed by guilt and convinced that his son is still alive, Harry begins an obsessive quest which leads him to delve into the past, to the point of endangering his marriage.

Throughout their quest, fragments of their past in Morocco resurface, exposing the fragilities of their relationship. Obsessed, Harry clings to a mysterious lead, while Robin follows him in an attempt to save what's left of their marriage. This series explores the slow degradation of a couple confronted with the impossible grief of a missing child, oscillating between obsession and lost love, and revealing buried secrets that shake their union.
