The journal’s editorial board Spiral presented the three finalists for the Spirale Eva-Le-Grand prize.
The Spirale Eva-Le-Grand prize rewards an essay or collection of essays on the arts, literature, culture or human sciences. It was in 2004 that the name of Eva Circé Le Grand was added to the prize, created in 1995 first under the name of the Spirale de l’essay prize, in order to honor the memory of one of the most fervent contributors to the magazine.
Here are these three finalists!
A poet among pickup breedersby Michel X Côté (Éditions du Quartz)
Here is an excerpt from the jury’s comments: “ Michel The author brings together literary illuminations which evoke the threat posed to the entirety of life, because if his concerns are those of our time, his language is unique, carved out of the emergency. »
Mothers of readings: History of a Hasidic storyby Éric Méchoulan (Nota Bene)
The jury said this: “ Nothing is simpler than a story: repeating it, by modifying it, is the historical gesture to which Éric Méchoulan dedicates an investigation of elegant and caring erudition. A Hasidic story and its variations become, in this book, the pretext to probe our love of stories by accumulating archives and philosophical quilts. »
At noon, a joyby Maude Pilon (Les Herbes rouge)
The jury qualified the work as follows: “ Maude Pilon’s essay offers a visceral experience of meaning and language in an unfinished project. Through a clever montage of quotes taken from the writings of Anni Albers, Antonin Artaud, Giordano Bruno and Simone Weil, among others, the author explores a work structure where the precariousness of literary thought is improvised as the place of difficult resistance. »
The winning book will be revealed later this fall. As part of its mandate to support all forms of arts, the magazine Spiral will offer the winning person the work of a Quebec artist related to their thinking.
Remember that the review Spiral won this spring the Prize of Excellence from the Société de Développement des Periodiques Culturels Québécois (SODEP) for the magazine of the year. Founded in 1979, Spiral is published three times a year and offers critical and analytical texts on the arts, culture, literature and human sciences.
