In Benin, the annual market for book productions opens its doors on the 20th of 2024. It is the National Book Fair (SNL) which has become a strategic platform for players in the sector.

The Book Market takes place from November 20 to 23, 2024 at the outdoor esplanade of the Palais des Congrès in Cotonou. Attention ! It’s not just a sales market.

Authors, publishing house managers and distributors meet, expanding their address book at this annual meeting. The SNL also offers readers the opportunity to meet authors for signings and other discussions around works read or considered for purchase.

Through SNL, the government intends to support authors and publishers in the promotion of their productions:

“The National Book Fair helps strengthen the visibility of Beninese writers and improve the competitiveness of their works on an international scale. It thus becomes a strategic promotional tool intended to enrich the national cultural heritage while offering book stakeholders a major platform to discuss development prospects for the sector..

Strategic platform

At SNL 2024, actors in the book chain reflect on the “Children’s literature: the world of little devourers of words”. The National Book Fair thus positions itself as “a place of fertile exchange between authors, publishers, booksellers, literary critics, and reading enthusiasts” for the future of Beninese literature.
In 2023, the National Book Fair attracted authors from various backgrounds. African and French authors participated in the exhibition. For the Beninese State, the National Book Fair stands out as “a strategic platform”.
