A bus to care for disadvantaged people that crisscrosses the department! The Médicobus was inaugurated this Tuesday at the Montfavet hospital (Vaucluse). This former fire truck, refitted to accommodate the public, has been in operation for 6 months. A team of 5 to 6 caregivers meets disadvantaged people or people living on the street to offer them somatic care (care that relates to the body) or psychological care. A way of “reaching out” to this public who does not always have the reflex to take care of themselves. A telemedicine case will also be acquired to put patients in direct contact with doctors if necessary.
Reach out to disadvantaged people
Jean-Luc Sicard is a senior health executive, responsible for the precarious sector at the Montfavet hospital center. The idea with this Médicobus is to reach out to this public, who spontaneously do not always seek treatment when they are ill. “They are in a process of exclusion and total desocialization, even in terms of their health. We know very well that these people will not spontaneously go and meet a doctor or make an appointment on Doctolib. And the moment they encounter care is often in an emergency. So we with this approach of “going towards”, we are really in a notion of public health and prevention.“
For the moment, the Médicobus operates on Thursday mornings at the Cavaillon community center, and every other Thursday afternoon at the Night Stop in Avignon. From now until January, it will be on Place Saint-Didier in Avignon on Fridays from 2 p.m. and in Carpentras. In total, the Médicobus equipped and renovated, with the telemedicine case cost 40,000 euros, it was financed by the Regional Health Agency and the State.
