She wanted to create a book for her granddaughter.
Sabine Guillem has just published her first book The forest masked ball, a children’s story for which she wrote and illustrated. Interview.
What is your background ?
I was born in Algiers and then my parents had to take refuge in France. When I was 6 months old, they moved to Bages from which I never moved! I have always been passionate about painting. From a modest family, I was unable to pursue higher studies in the field of art. But, I always kept in touch with him. I worked at the Catalan Village where I sold art objects and then in a plastic arts supply store. I practice acrylic painting. I created frescoes and interior decorations for friends. The subjects that inspire me are mainly the children’s world and magical worlds.
How did the idea for this book come to you?
The idea was born 6 years ago. I wanted to create a unique book to give to my granddaughter. Then those around me convinced me to publish it. Having been a facilitator at the Bages kindergarten, this helped me to better understand the children’s expectations.
What does it consist on ?
It’s a fairy tale that can be personalized using a child’s first name. It can be read by an adult with children but also by a child alone up to the age of 6-7.
It tells the story of a child who goes into the forest where he will discover many characters (humans and animals) and also a fairy who plans to organize a masked ball…
At the end of the book, the child is asked to recognize the different protagonists of the story and to draw some of them.
