This week, La Goulette – the main cruise port of Tunisia, located a dozen kilometers from the center of Tunis – crossed an important milestone by welcoming two major cruise ships: the Seven Seas Navigator of Regent Seven Seas Cruises and the MSC Seaside of MSC Cruises. According to late Cruise News, nearly 4,900 passengers landed to visit the Tunis region, while the port continues its expansion to an activity distributed throughout the year.
With modern installations capable of receiving the largest ocean liners and connected directly to the capital by the TGM train, the port of La Goulette is particularly well positioned to capture the interest of companies in search of new stops in the Mediterranean.
Traditionally centered on the summer season, the Tunisian port has initiated its operations for the first time in January 2025. The Mediterranean climate of Tunisia, combined with the richness of its heritage, makes it a stopover increasingly popular with cruise lines in search of alternative routes.
In May, 18 stops are planned, with more than 30,000 passengers expected. Since the start of the year, La Goulette has received 26 ships, and 113 other stops have already been registered on the calendar. The year 2025 could thus conclude with more than 290,000 passengers, an increase of 32 % compared to 2024. The total number of stops could increase by 43 %.
The proposed excursions range from the ancient ruins of Carthage to the Souks of the Medina of Tunis, passing by the alleys of Sidi Bou Saïd.
“La Goulette is gradually taking hold as a port of stopover a year, which testifies to the confidence of our partners and the sustained interest in Tunisia,” said Sami Debbiche, director general of the port, quoted by Late Cruise News.
