It’s almost time for the 2024-25 UEFA Champions League to draw to a close. The tournament (as either the European Cup or Champions League) has been running for 70 years, with 23 different clubs having taken the cup home throughout its history.
With around 400 million viewers every year, the Champions League final is one of the biggest annual sporting events in the world – but when and where does this year’s final take place? We’ll tell you all you need to know about the final, including where it’s due to be held and when you can catch all the action.
What is the 2025 Champions League final date?
This year, the Champions Leage final is due to be held on the 31st of May 2025, following an exciting series of knockout games in the leadup to the championship match. This falls around a week after the various domestic league seasons conclude.
The first leg of the quarter final phase will be held on the 8th and 9th of April, followed by leg 2 on the 15th and 16th of April. The winners of the quarter finals will then face off across two semi final legs, after which the final competitors will be decided.
What time is the Champions League final?
Viewers in the UK can watch the final live, with kick-off taking place at 8pm. A typical two-half game will run until 9:45 at the earliest, with extra time extending the match until roughly 10:30 in the event of a tie after 90 minutes.
If the score is still equal by the end of extra time, a penalty shootout will be contested after a short break. This is likely to extend the match time until 10:50-11pm.
The match will start at 9pm CEST local time for fans in the stands, lasting until anywhere from 10:45pm to midnight CEST.
Where is the Champions League final taking place?
This year’s Champions League final will be held from the Allianz Arena in Munich, Germany. The stadium has a maximum capacity of 75,000 fans; and previously hosted the UCL final in 2012.
The ground is the home of local powerhouse Bayern Munich, who have won six Champions League titles themselves (most recently in 2020), and are in contention for their seventh win this year. In fact, Bayern Munich were in the last Champions League final hosted at the Allianz Arena, when they suffered a devastating loss against Chelsea on penalties.

2026: Budapest
The 2025-26 season will conclude at Puskás Aréna in Budapest, the capital city of Hungary. Home to the country’s national football team, the stadium has a maximum capacity of 67,215 fans, and will host the pinnacle of European club football on the 30th of May 2026.
2027: standard or madrid
The host city of the 2027 Champions League final is yet to be decided, but the race has narrowed to just two locations.
Azerbaijan hopes to host their first Champions League final at the 69,870 max capacity Baku Olympic Stadium – the home of their national football team and Qarabağ FK. The stadium previously held the Europa League finals in 2019, when Chelsea beat Arsenal 4-1.
Spain is also in the running, with the Metropolitano Stadium in Madrid staking its claim for the final. The venue can hold 67,000 fans, and is the home of 3-time UEFA Super Cup winners Atlético Madrid. It previously hosted the 2019 Champions League final, in which Liverpool claimed a 2-0 victory over Tottenham Hotspur.
The chosen venue will earn the rights to the finals of the 2026-27 season, scheduled to take place on the 5th of June 2027.
