This is once again proof that Aix-en-Provence is a city of choice for artists and major collections inspired by the work of Paul Cézanne.

From June 28, 2025, 66 masterpieces including 24 by Cézanne, but also by Modigliani, Van Gogh, Degas, Soutine, Gauguin and Toulouse-Lautrec will be exhibited for three years in Aix-en-Provence.

This collection will be installed in the spaces of the chapel of the White Penitents and will coexist with some of the works from the Planque collection presented since 2013 in this new space located five minutes from the Granet museum.

For the mayor of Aix-en-Provence, Sophie Joissains “it is an immense pride, an honor, and a joy for our beautiful city to welcome these works. It is also the moment to say that Aix-en-Provence is the city of the painter Cézanne”

One of the most important collections of European art in the United States

This loan to the City of Aix-en-Provence is the result of a established relationship with the Henry and Rose Pearlman Foundation since the exhibition presented at the Granet museum ten years ago. It is also a tribute to lHenry and Rose’s long-standing love for the city of Aix and its major role in Cézanne’s work.

For Bruno Ely, director of the Granet museum in Aix-en-Provence, the most remarkable work is “La Montagne Sainte-Victoire seen from the Lauves”, painted between 1904 and 1906. “It is the only vertical work that the painter has ever painted. It is a modern, synthetic work which simplifies the forms and at the same time it is very faithful to the motif as if a photograph had been taken. It is truly an absolute masterpiece by Cézanne.“.

2025 will be the year of Cézanne in Aix-en-Provence

Next year will be an exceptional year which will coincide with the celebrations of the father of modern art. This major exhibition at the Granet museum will be associated with visits to the main Cézanne sites, including the renovated Jas de Bouffan estate, the Lauves workshop and the Bibémus quarries.

This exceptional exhibition will take place in partnership with France bleu Provence.
