Halles de la Cartoucherie in Toulouse: who painted these magnificent graffiti on the exterior walls

the essential
The exterior walls of the Halles de la Cartoucherie become the canvases of different artists. Realism, 3D, abstract, each expresses their own style.

While the Halles de la Cartoucherie concert hall is almost finished, Les Halles is also taking the opportunity to make some changes. Coming from Montpellier, Bordeaux, Marseille, but also from the Pink City, artists come to paint the facade of the building of the former industrial workshops.

“We all have the right to two sections of wall to create the fresco we want, except the person who does the width of the facade,” explains the artist Nefrit. Originally from Marseille, he studied fine arts, but it was alone that he learned to make frescoes as an autodidact. “I’m starting to do big projects every summer,” says the thirty-year-old.

“It’s free, I do what I want”

In total, eight artists painted the front of the Halles de la Cartoucherie. Everyone brings their own style to it. “It’s free, I do what I want and what I like. It’s rewarding to do my style 100%,” smiles Nefrit. This Thursday, June 13, he had been working on his fresco for four days. He describes the days as “busy” as he paints his assigned walls from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.

“I made a monolithic, abstract shape, without any special subject. I chose these colors because I like them. I am making a background in theme with the climbing gym behind it” , describes the artist who had already been asked by Les Halles de la Cartoucherie to create a table. We can now also find on the walls of the third place, in addition to Nefrit’s work, dancing bodies, colorful abstract shapes and many others.
