In the satirical comedy by Marc Brunet, he opposite the iconic Anne Dorval and he films with friends. Mathieu Dufour didn’t ask for that much for his first experience as an actor on the small screen in Splendor and influence.

Mathieu, how did you react when you received confirmation that you were going to play in Splendor and influence?
I was already really nervous just at the idea of going to audition for this project…So, imagine my reaction when I learned that I had landed the role! I think I had a smile plastered on my face for 24 hours! (laughs) I’m a big fan of Marc Brunet’s work. The heart has its reasons, Bobos, Like me!… Everything he writes is genius! It’s not for nothing that old sketches from these shows are currently all the rage on social networks. His humor is timeless!
Is this your first role in fiction?
Yes! My character, Cyprien, and I have a few character traits in common. And, believe it or not, he’s a lot more intense than me, which is saying something! (laughs) I didn’t have to look far for my inspiration, since I know several influencers and I understand the codes associated with reality TV well.
Do you have any scenes with Anne Dorval?
Of course! She plays Brigitte Bussières, a somewhat outdated producer and host who is attempting a big comeback in front of the camera with the reality TV show Splendeur et influence. In my first scenes with her, I couldn’t believe that I was giving her the line. But she knows so much how to put her work colleagues at ease that I quickly forgot that I was filming with one of the greatest actresses in Quebec.
Was there a lot of laughter on set?
Oh! My God, yes! One of the things that struck me the most in comedy The heart has its reasons, they were the bloopers with Anne Dorval and Marc Labrèche. I experienced a surreal moment with Anne when we completely lost control during a scene! Anne and I were laughing so much that at one point we had to take a few seconds to compose ourselves. We were afraid of slowing down production.
What is the biggest difference between being a comedian, content creator and actor?
With the stage and social networks, I am used to immediacy. I make a joke, I laugh. I share a video on Instagram, people post comments. The filming of Splendor and influence took place last fall. Waiting several months before this project was presented to the general public seemed like an eternity!
