Antidepressants and burnout: Louis Morissette follows in the footsteps of Jonathan Drouin

Louis Morissette, one of the best-known figures on the Quebec comedy scene, recently followed a similar path to Jonathan Drouin by publicly revealing his struggles with anxiety, insomnia and other mental health issues.

The story of Drouin, who courageously shared his own struggle, was a Source of inspiration for Morissette, particularly because Drouin was his favorite player when he played in Montreal. This created a deep bond between the two men, Morissette recognizing herself in Drouin.

Morissette, for some time, has been presenting her solo show entitled “Under pressure”which serves as a sort of retrospective of his life.

During an interview with Catherine Beauchamp and Patrick Lagacé on 98.5 FM, Morissette invited Lagacé to attend her show, predicting that he would be challenged by certain topics discussed. Lagacé responded to this invitation and confirmed that he was indeed touched by the content of the show.

But why does Morissette impose a tour on himself when he doesn’t necessarily need one, he who is a multimillionaire?

He explains that he likes to create, to write jokes, and that’s why he chose this path in life. But above all, he wants to address the subject of mental health, exactly like Jonathan Drouin.

In her show, Morissette openly addresses her vulnerability and taking antidepressants. He confides that he wanted to share this part of his life to break the taboo surrounding mental health.

“They talk to me about pressure, they talk to me about managing my anxiety. I learned that my children were anxious only to, after that, go back, meet the doctors and have me say: ”But Mr. Morissette, you know that Did you get anxious?” (credit: 98.5 FM)

He tells how he went through a burnout during Bye Bye, despite doctors’ warnings. He eventually lost hearing in one side with no apparent explanation, but he realized that the pressure and his inability to manage his anxiety may have had something to do with it.

“I wanted to talk about that. I wanted to say that I’m not a superman. During the Bye Bye, I was burned out. The doctors told me to stop, I didn’t stop. I came to have lots of problems. I lost my hearing on one side. No one can figure out why.” (credit: 98.5 FM)

Aware of his own anxiety, Morissette admits that he tries to control it by burying himself in work, but sometimes that’s not enough, and he resorts to antidepressants to calm the whirlwind in his head.

“Yes, I’m an worrier. I’m a complete worrier who tries to control his anxiety through work. Then my insomnia… All that means that at some point, all that means that yes, I’m going to take antidepressants to calm the hamster in my head.”

When asked if he was ashamed to reveal these aspects of his life, Morissette replied bluntly: “I was never ashamed.”

This statement reflects her determination to break stigmas and encourage others to speak openly about their own struggles.

By sharing his story, Louis Morissette joins Jonathan Drouin in this mission, showing that it is possible to find strength in vulnerability. That’s good. As he stated to Hockey MagazineJonathan Drouin was indeed his favorite player.

Yes, Joe opened the doors for many people so that mental health was no longer a taboo subject. Even the greatest comedians have followed his path.
