State of emergency at the southern border
Faithful to the promises made during the electoral campaign, the 47e President of the United States has tackled immigration head-on. He announced that he would declare a state of emergency in order to immediately deploy the army to the border with Mexico with the aim of curbing “illegal entries” and “repelling the invasion” of the country. Donald Trump did not specify his intentions in his inauguration speech, but during his electoral campaign, he affirmed that he would introduce customs duties of 25% on imports from neighboring Mexico and Canada. He had also threatened to significantly raise those on Chinese products.
