A calendar problem? Hungarian sovereignist leader Viktor Orbán is not among the hard-right figures present at Inauguration Day for the official inauguration of Donald Trump. His closeness to the American president, however, no longer needs to be demonstrated. He visited his Florida residence at Mar-a-Lago three times in 2024, considered himself the messenger of his “secret peace plan” for Ukraine, and constantly extols the merits of the Republican , while being a little wary of it. He would have received a “personal” invitation. But he has a good excuse: Monday is also the day when he gives a speech in Budapest to take stock of the Hungarian presidency of the EU which has just ended.
