Ski-cycling is a typically Grenoble practice. It consists of going to the foot of the slopes by bike with your ski equipment attached to your bike. This practice is gaining more and more momentum in the region and attracting more and more followers.
If usually, everyone applies it on their own, once a year for two years, the associations “Alpes Là” and “Moutain Wilderness” organize a day to promote bike-skiing. That day, nearly 80 enthusiasts met on the esplanade of the capital of the Alps to take part.
“I tend to take the bus to go ski touring, but in Belledonne in particular there is not always frequent transport. I find that a shame. I thought it would be a good idea to go cycling- skiing and I like cycling so it was the opportunity, but going there alone is not necessarily easy., explains Marie, who is practicing bike-skiing for the first time.
-The initiative first started with a small group of friends including Sam Cornus before spreading to others: “We are a small collective of friends, we first started doing this together and then we wanted to go further and create a small event to create excitement around this activity, try to develop it, democratize it and it works, there were ten of us at the start, today there are almost 100.”
The reason for this enthusiasm, a common desire: to go skiing and enjoy the mountains without increasing your carbon footprint. “Behind, there is an ecological approach with the idea of abandoning the car to go to the resort, of making an ode to gentle mobility in the mountains and showing that this change is possible and exciting, that it is necessary go towards that,” explains Sam Cornus, the organizer of the bike-ski day.
Today's objective is to reach the Col de Porte via Sarcenas, i.e. 18.9 kilometers of cycling:
“It's not much more difficult than a classic bike climb. To go up, it will take two hours for the fastest, three hours for the others and to go down in around 30 minutes. Obviously, this is not aimed for beginners who do not cycle or ski, but for a discovery of the activity, we can turn to outings which are shorter with train access which can shorten the cycling time. specifies the organizer.
Arriving at the Col de Porte, Nathan, who is participating for the first time, cannot hide his satisfaction: “There is a desire to change our approach to the mountain of course, but it is also the pleasure of arriving at the top with the strength of our calves”concludes the young man, now ready to attack the snowy peaks.
