For some orders, Amazon provides a 6-digit code that is supposed to guarantee delivery. However, this code can also be used to steal your order.

In some cases, Internet users who make an expensive purchase on Amazon are given a one-time password (OTP). This password takes the form of a 6-digit code and must be communicated to the delivery person at the time of delivery. The goal is simply to secure the moment of delivery.

But, paradoxically, this system, which is supposed to provide greater security, can be misused to steal the package. This is precisely what happened to a Frenchman who shared his misadventure on X.

It all starts when this person orders an iPhone 15 on Amazon Italy. After some time of waiting, the delivery man finally arrives at his door with the iPhone 15 in a box. Everything seems to go smoothly until the delivery man asks him to provide the 6-digit code.

The person who had placed the order then provided his code, but apparently without success. He explained on X: « I enter my 6-digit code, it tells me that the code does not work. I try again a second time, still no result. It tells me that after the 3rd try, the order will no longer be possible ».

So the delivery guy pretends that there’s a technical problem and then offers to come back at the end of the day. But lo and behold, the delivery guy never came back and he used the 6-digit code (which was perfectly functional) to confirm the delivery. In other words, he stole the iPhone 15 he was supposed to deliver.

For their part, the victim of this scam finds himself, for the moment, without a solution. The reason is that Amazon France believes that it cannot intervene since the order was placed on Amazon Italy. In addition, the online commerce company claims that it cannot do anything since the 6-digit code was used.

However, there is still a glimmer of hope for the victim of this scam. Indeed, under post X, another victim of this scam explained that she won her case by going to a section of the European Commission website. She then opened an RLL (Request for Legal Liability) with the address [email protected]. Reimbursement would then have been carried out in just 3 days.

In any case, never give your 6-digit code to a delivery person who is not in front of you. Always make sure that communicating the code in person necessarily results in the delivery of your package.
