INTERVIEW – The general received the Today prize for his book on Wednesday Between wars (Gallimard). The opportunity to discuss with him the awareness of Europeans about the return of war and the importance, for democracies, of not neglecting the use of force.

LE FIGARO. – In your book, you talk about the incomprehension, ignorance and indifference of public opinion towards the profession of arms. Does the success of your story, which has already received several distinctions and for which you have just received the Today prize, not demonstrate on the contrary a still strong interest in the army?
François LECOINTRE. – I don't know precisely what the readership of the book is; whether they are mainly pure civilians or former soldiers. But it is true that all the polls show how much the French respect the military institution and trust it.
