It is the fifth city of Tarn in terms of population. But also the fifth commune of where it is good life for seniors according to a ranking of Figaro recently revealed. A ranking in which the department shines particularly elsewhere.

With around 10,800 inhabitants, Lavaurfinds itself behind , , Gaillac and Graulhet demographically. But for the national daily, the municipality is ahead of them in terms of quality of life for those over 60.

In fifth position

Health, shops, leisure, climate, environment… Le Figaro screened the data from 1,000 municipalities with more than 9,000 inhabitants based on 35 criteria. The newspaper then placed them in three categories: more than 100,000 inhabitants, more than 40,000 and less than 40,000.

In the end, Lavaur therefore finds itself fifth (out of 817) in the stratum of municipalities with less than 40,000 inhabitants (and therefore more than 9,000). She is just behind Pornic, Saint-Cyr-sur-Mer, Fontainebleau and Fouesnant. Either coastal towns or the region!

Life expectancy, number of dentists, grocery stores, bank branches, florists, libraries, bowling alleys, hiking trails, flights, pollutants in the air, rainfall, sunshine… The range is vast. And therefore flattering for the small town less than an hour from .

“Sweetness of living in the Vauréan style”

“This national ranking confirms the comfort and gentleness of life in the Vauréan style for our seniors, in a setting providing them with: a hospital center partner of the Toulouse University Hospital, many diversified local shops, extensive services, very often free, like the L’Isatis bus, easily accessible cultural and sporting facilities (media library, swimming pool, bowling alley, etc.),” welcomes the municipality.

Lozère, Aude, Lot and Pyrénées-Orientales are also well ranked

In Occitania, other cities stand out in the Figaro ranking. In the same category as Lavaur, we can cite Cahors (Lot, 6th), Cabestany (Pyrénées-Orientales, 7th), Mende (Lozère, 10th), Figeac (Lot, 12th), Limoux (Aude, 27th) or even ( 39th).

In the section of towns with more than 40,000 inhabitants, we note the 8th place of (Tarn-et-Garonne), the 11th of (Hautes-Pyrénées) or the 16th of (Aude).

Finally, in cities with more than 100,000 inhabitants, there is a nice group shot: (Pyrénées-Orientales, 7th), Nîmes (, 8th) and Toulouse (Haute-Garonne, 9th). (Hérault) is 18th.

Which recalls other rankings highlighting Lavaur in recent years (11e most dynamic city in France out of 887 municipalities with more than 10,000 inhabitants in 2011, according to the Internet newspaperleading city in France for disabled sports, etc.). We could put things into perspective by citing slightly less lenient rankings such as that of Dream Cities (80e in its stratum) or 468e position out of 894 in the list of “green cities of France”. But still, this ranking raises Lavaur to heights rarely reached.

Albi is also at the top in its category

And besides, the whole Tarn is quite in sight. If we except Saint-Sulpice-la-Pointe, not counted although having more than 9,000 inhabitants, and Graulhetwhich is beyond the 300e place, all other cities have enviable positions in the ranking of Figaro. Gaillac is thus 19e, Mazamet 32e et Carmaux 99e in their stratum.

And as for the two largest municipalities in the department, placed in the category of more than 40,000 inhabitants, it is just as strong: bleach is fourth and Castres 19e.

According to INSEE, Tarn had 393,572 inhabitants in 2021. And among them, 31.8% over 60 years old (129,103). Who can therefore rejoice…
