Four people died and another was missing on Monday, the day after a landslide in China where an alert is in force in several regions, particularly in the center of the country, state media reported.

Following record rainfall of 337 millimeters recorded in a town in the mountainous province of Hunan (central), “four people were killed and another missing,” said the Xinhua news agency.
The heavy rains affect a large part of the country, which extends from Yunnan (southwest), bordering Vietnam, to the coastal province of Zhejiang (east), close to Shanghai, via Hunan.
The alert, issued at its highest level, was triggered in several parts of this vast area. Heavy precipitation could last until Thursday.
In eastern China, the site of Huangshan, renowned for its picturesque mountainous landscapes, is closed to the public. On Sunday, 54,000 people were evacuated due to bad weather, according to the New China news agency.
China has faced extreme weather conditions and locally unusual temperatures in recent months, exacerbated by climate change according to scientists.
On Sunday, a landslide in a mountainous area of central China killed at least eight people, according to a report from state television CCTV.
Heavy rains in recent days had already caused flooding, particularly in Guangdong province (south), emblematic of Chinese manufacturing power. At least 38 people lost their lives, according to an official report published Friday.
At the other end of the country, scorching temperatures at the start of the month had enveloped a large northern part, including the capital Beijing where the mercury had locally exceeded 40 degrees.
