Sex, drugs and Matt Gaetz

Sex, drugs and Matt Gaetz

Matt Gaetz, Trumpist representative from Florida, is not at the end of his troubles. Last year, the Justice Department decided not to charge him in connection with allegations of sex trafficking and obstruction of justice. However, the House Ethics Committee announced Tuesday that it continues to investigate allegations about him, including that he may have engaged in sexual misconduct, used illegal drugs and accepted inappropriate gifts.

The House Ethics Committee, which operates on a bipartisan basis, is not in the habit of trumpeting the investigations it conducts. However, she felt the need to take stock of her investigation targeting Gaetz dating back to April 2021. She thus announced that she had “determined that some of the allegations merited in-depth examination.” And she added that she had identified additional allegations that “deserved investigation.” At the same time, she rejected other accusations against Gaetz.

The Trump ally denounced the investigation, attributing it to former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, whose downfall he orchestrated in October 2023. “It’s Soviet,” he wrote on X “Kevin McCarthy showed them the man, and now they are trying to find the crime. »

Gaetz was investigated by the Justice Department over allegations that he had sex with a 17-year-old girl and paid for her to travel with him.

PS: The second day of the second fundraising campaign for this blog in 2024 continues to go well. A big thank you to everyone who has already contributed, as well as to others who will do so before succumbing to the heat!
