Three-time world champion Grant Holloway dominated a fiery 110m hurdles in 12”86 on Friday at the US Olympic trials in Eugene. The top sprinters performed well in the 200m semis.

For the only final of the evening on the track, Grant Holloway struck very hard with the best world performance of the year, and above all the fourth fastest time in the history of the discipline.

His compatriot Devon Allen ran in 12”84 in 2022, Holloway already in 12”81 in this same stadium in the semi-final of the Trials in 2021, and another American, Aries Merritt, ran in 12”80 in Brussels in 2012, a world record that could shake at the Paris Games (July 26-August 11).

Big favorite for the Games, Holloway knows however that such a time at this time of the year guarantees nothing: at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021, he was beaten by the Jamaican Hansle Parchment.

MPM pour Thomas

On Friday, the American hurdlers were carried by a perfect wind (2 m/s, exactly the legal limit) and offered one of the densest races in the history of the discipline. Freddie Crittenden took 2nd place in 12”93 (his record) and Daniel Roberts 3rd (12”96, also a record), to make up the Olympic trio.

Earlier, the sprint stars had repeated their scales in the 200m semi-finals. Gabby Thomas achieved the world best performance on the half-lap of the track in 21”78. The queen of the 100m Sha’Carri Richardson showed the same impression of ease to cross the line in 21”92 (equaling the record).

In the men’s race, Noah Lyles also showed himself to be impressive in 19”60 while dropping back at the end of the race, for a time that was not approved however due to a wind that was a little too generous (2.5 m/s). Kenny Bednarek (19”96), Erriyon Knighton (19”93) and Christian Coleman (19”89) will also be in the final.
