Appetites are whetted and the game is almost over, barring the dreaded last-minute negotiations and haggling. Monday evening in Brussels, the 27 heads of state and government of the EU meet for an “informal dinner”, where they should, in theory, agree on the “top jobs” and analyze together the results of the elections European. The appointments seem to be consolidating and could already be the subject of an informal agreement, a consensus which would be unusually early. Both French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz have expressed their desire to make a decision quickly. In-depth discussions have already taken place as part of the G7 summit in Italy. “A political majority is being formed […] I have the feeling that there is no point in delaying, and that things can be decided quickly,” Olaf Scholz told ARD on Saturday.

It is indeed the results of the European elections and the strengths of the parties which will determine who will take the head of the European Commission, the European Parliament, who will be the future head of EU diplomacy and who will chair the European Council. Here are the names that keep coming back to Brussels. And which will then have to be confirmed during the European summit on June 27 and 28.
