Violent thunderstorms are forecast from 2 p.m. in French-speaking Switzerland. MeteoSwiss has launched a level 4 alert in Payerne and another level 3 for the canton of Fribourg. In Geneva, the authorities have decided to cancel all demonstrations.

The canton of Geneva cancels all authorizations for events planned on public property from Saturday 2 p.m. In question, the weather alert which predicts a violent storm from the end of the afternoon.

The announcement was made on Saturday morning by the Department of Institutions and Digital Affairs (DIN). He stresses that stormy gusts of 100 km/h, large hailstones, lightning strikes and heavy downpours “are highly probable”.

“The security of the various events cannot be guaranteed and the gatherings will pose a danger to all those participating in them,” the DIN wrote in its press release.

In the canton of Fribourg, MeteoSwiss has announced a level three alert. Severe thunderstorms are expected across the country. In Payerne, the alert has even been raised to level 4. These violent weather conditions are expected to last from 2 p.m. to 3 a.m.
