King Felipe VI receives President Erdoğan at La Zarzuela Palace

King Felipe VI of Spain welcomed President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, who is visiting Madrid. The Turkish president attended the 8th Spain-Türkiye Intergovernmental Summit this Wednesday.

King Felipe VI of Spain, 56, received in audience President Truc, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, 70, at La Zarzuela Palace, this June 12, 2024. King Felipe welcomed his Turkish counterpart on the steps of the palace gate. The two heads of state joined members of the delegations inside the palace.

During this visit, the Minister of Treasury and Finance of Turkey, Mehmet Şimşek, and the Senior Foreign Policy Advisor to the Turkish President, Akif Çagatay Kiliç, were present. On the Spanish side, King Felipe was surrounded by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation, José Manuel Albares and the Spanish Ambassador to the Republic of Turkey, Cristina Latorre Sancho.

The President of the Republic of Turkey was in Spain this Wednesday to participate in the 8th Spain-Turkey Intergovernmental Summit. In Spain, this type of meeting is called a High Level Meeting (RAN). Fourteen ministers from the two countries are participating in this summit which aims in particular to promote economic development and business relations between the two countries. Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez also received the Turkish president in audience before joining the summit. RTVE indicates that during the summit, the recent recognition of Palestine by Spain was also on the agenda of the meeting.
