Four soldiers were “killed during fighting in the south of the Gaza Strip” on Monday, the army spokesperson said laconically in a statement on Tuesday, without the IDF providing details on the circumstances of their killing. dead. According to the Israeli press, these four soldiers were killed by an explosive device which caused the collapse of a building on the southern edge of the Gaza Strip where the Israeli army is concentrating its efforts with the announced aim of destroying the last battalions of the armed wing of Hamas.

The latter had claimed the day before to have killed or injured an unknown number of Israeli soldiers by blowing up a booby-trapped building in the Chaboura Palestinian refugee camp in Rafah.

These soldiers were all from the Guivati ​​brigade. The brigade is attached to the army’s Southern Regional Command. It has three infantry battalions as well as reconnaissance and engineering companies.

298 soldiers killed since October 27

The families of the killed soldiers were immediately informed of their death in combat by the authorities. During the explosion, an officer of the “Guivati” patrol and four fighters in training were also seriously injured. Another fighter was also slightly injured. All the fighters were evacuated to receive medical treatment at a hospital and their families were informed of their condition according to Israeli media N12. The funerals of the four soldiers will take place today.

These deaths bring to 298 the number of Israeli soldiers killed in the military campaign on Gaza since the start of the ground offensive on October 27.

The war was sparked by Hamas’ attack on Israel on October 7 from the Gaza Strip. This led to the death of 1,194 people on the Israeli side, the majority of them civilians killed on October 7, according to an AFP count based on official Israeli figures. Of the 251 people taken as hostages on October 7, 116 are still detained in Gaza, of whom 41 are dead according to the Israeli army.
