“People on a boat saw a body near a rocky coast,” Petros Vassilakis, the police chief of the South Aegean region, told AFP, before indicating that he Michael Mosley was indeed acting.

The body was found on a small cliff located on a rocky hill northeast of the village of Pedi, near the beach of Agia Marina, according to the BBC. According to a police Source in the British media, the person found had been dead “for several days”.

Spotted by a television channel

According to AFP, a crew from Greek public broadcaster ERT was filming the area where the 67-year-old man, known for his innovative diet advice, disappeared when they spotted a body “at 50 meters from the sea” while lying on your back.

“This is the body of the journalist we have been looking for for several days,” the mayor of Symi, Lefteris Papakalodoukas, who was with the television team, also told this channel.

Michael Mosley is a well-known face to the British public, notably for his appearances on the BBC’s The One Show and ITV’s This Morning, as well as for making documentaries.

Left alone without phone

The 67-year-old Briton disappeared on Wednesday June 5, while on vacation on the Greek island of Symi, in the Aegean Sea. He had left his wife Claire Bailey on Agios Nikolaos beach to go for a walk around 12:30 p.m.

The doctor had left alone, without having a cell phone. Remaining without news of him, his wife had notified the emergency services in the evening.

Michael Mosley “left on foot from the beach of Agios Nikolaos in the direction of Pedi”, his wife told the Greek daily Kathimerini on Thursday.

Searches began on Wednesday evening. Local police reported the disappearance of Michael Mosley on Thursday morning. A fire helicopter was sent to the scene to help with the search.

Disappeared in a difficult to access area

“We are very shocked and perplexed by what has happened to him. His children have now all gone to Greece and are traveling all the way to try to find him,” his brother Arthur told the Telegraph Friday.

The area where the presenter disappeared is considered “difficult because it is quite rocky”, said the mayor of Symi, Lefteris Papakalodoukas, on Thursday, according to the Greek daily Kathimerini.

The elected official spoke of “the unbearable heat” which had hit the island in recent days. On Tuesday, the mercury reached 39.3°C locally, according to the weather services. Police said they were considering all possibilities, including that of an accident, according to media reports.
