A tractor-trailer traveling on a road in North Carolina changed lanes without seeing a new police van next to it, causing extensive damage.
The incident occurred while officers from the Newport Police Department in Rhode Island were in the vehicle their employer had just purchased to take it back to their headquarters, CNN reports.
This van was purchased at a cost of $180,000 to protect police officers and victims during high-risk events.
A video captured from a car following them shows the semi-trailer drastically change lanes, causing the van to remain stuck between its trailer and the low wall.
The new vehicle suffered significant damage, but no one was injured in the accident.
“It reminds us how fragile life is even if we do everything right, like these officers did,” says Newport Police Chief Ryan Duffy.
The exact cause that led to the driver of the semi-trailer changing lanes is currently under investigation.
