Barely started, the Saint-Antoine-de-Tilly municipal council failed on Tuesday evening. Barely seconds after opening the meeting, Mayor Richard Bellemare requested its postponement.

According to The Lotbinière Peoplethe elected official allegedly cited “discussions preceding the session which were significantly longer than expected” and “certain points which require clarification” to explain the adjournment of the regular session.

Several dozen citizens were present to support or denounce the municipal council, in a particularly tense political context. The council recently refused to publicly present a report from the Quebec Municipal Commission severely reprimanding it, and a petition was launched to demand the resignation of Mayor Bellemarre.

On the agenda of the session which was finally adjourned, there was the item “Formal reminder and/or formal notice to certain citizens who do not respect the rights of representatives of the Municipality”.

Contacted by The sunMayor Bellemare affirms that the postponement of Tuesday evening’s session has nothing to do with the difficult climate at city hall.

He affirms that the elected officials decided not to hold a meeting since there were still points on the agenda to be dealt with in pre-council.

The mayor of Saint-Antoine-de-Tilly promises that the session will take place and that it will be resumed in the coming days.
