The Israeli military said Tuesday it launched large-scale airstrikes targeting Hezbollah’s underground command centers in southern Lebanon on Monday afternoon, in which more than 50 fighters were killed.

JERUSALEM, Oct. 8 (Xinhua) — The Israeli military said Tuesday that it launched large-scale airstrikes targeting Hezbollah’s underground command centers in southern Lebanon on Monday afternoon, during which more than 50 fighters were killed.

Israel Defense Forces (IDF) spokesman Daniel Hagari told a televised news briefing that the airstrikes hit and destroyed dozens of underground command centers of Hezbollah’s Southern Front, where the commanders who led the fight against Israel.

According to Mr. Hagari, six senior commanders of Hezbollah’s Southern Front and the Radwan force were killed, including Ali Ahmad Ismail, identified as the artillery commander in the Bint Jbeil region, and Ahmad Hassan Nazal, identified as the leader of the attack sector in Bint Jbeil for the Radwan force, Hezbollah’s elite commando unit.

He noted that the Southern Front had built an “extensive” network of underground infrastructure and command centers in southern Lebanon, designed to attack IDF soldiers during ground combat and to carry out attacks against communities in northern Israel.
