Benyamin Netanyahu “invents justifications”, according to Ismaïl Haniyeh

The leader of the Palestinian movement, Ismaïl Haniyeh, accused Israel of sabotaging mediation efforts aimed at obtaining a truce in the Gaza Strip associated with an exchange of hostages held in this territory and Palestinians detained by the state Hebrew. Mr. Haniyeh said in a statement that the Israeli prime minister wanted “inventing constant justifications for the continuation of aggression, the extension (…) of the conflict and the sabotage of the efforts made by the various mediators and parties”.

A first round of discussions took place on Saturday in Cairo in the presence of a Hamas delegation led by Khalil Al-Hayya and representatives of the mediators. A Hamas official repeated, on condition of anonymity, that his movement would not accept “in no case shall an agreement not explicitly provide for an end to the war” in Gaza.
