At the airport, at a baseball game, with the abominable snowman… Internet users are searching through memes for where a zebra currently on the run in the Western United States could be found.
The story of this striped animal, named Z, which escaped during transport to a zoo, quickly made the rounds on social networks.
This funny, freedom-loving zebra escaped on Sunday, when its owner Kristine Keltgen stopped on a highway in Washington State to readjust the carpet of her trailer.
When she opened the door, the four female zebras she was carrying took off on a tangent. ‘The first thing I thought of was to move them away from the road,’ Ms. Keltgen said, according to several American media. ‘Then I told myself I needed help.’
Fortunately, a rodeo professional and two horse trainers saw the scene and stopped. The team managed to recover three females, but Z jumped over a fence and vanished into thin air.
Since then, the fugitive has been seen by numerous witnesses and by video surveillance systems, according to local authorities. But his run still lasts.
Residents are asked not to approach Z or try to capture him themselves. The hunt is being conducted by King County Wildlife Services. A hiking trail was closed in the area on Friday. “It appears to be an area frequented by the zebra,” authorities explained on social media.
