She had lost her engagement ring in the hay: 54 years later, she found it by miracle

A 76-year-old woman was left speechless after a metal detector found her engagement ring lost 54 years ago in a field on her farm in Wales.

She no longer believed it and yet the improbable happened. Marilyn Birch, a 76-year-old British woman, found her engagement ring, lost 54 years ago on her farm, reports the BBC.

The precious jewel had slipped from her finger while she was feeding the cows on her farm near Pontardawe, Wales. Her husband, Pete, 80, gave her the ring in 1966. The couple said they had given up looking for it.

“Go get my ring.”

Until a metal detector comes to explore their farm looking for objects. On the third visit of the metal researcher, the septuagenarian said to him: “Look, Keith, don’t worry about all this trash you find, go get my engagement ring”reports the BBC.

A week later, the miracle happened. Lost for decades, the precious engagement ring, lost in the hay, was found thanks to the metal detector.

“It was incredible”

“I couldn’t speak. I couldn’t stop looking at her… It was incredible. Very moving”confided the Briton to our colleagues at the BBC.

Marilyn Birch had never worn her engagement ring, only for a few hours. “For some reason, one Saturday morning I put it on, decided to go shopping, came home and fed some hay to the cattle.” She discovers that she has lost her jewelry while washing her hands shortly afterwards and remains upset.

She won’t leave her anymore

Her husband said finding the engagement ring was a “wonderful moment”. 54 years later, Marilyn put her ring back on, which fits her perfectly, and will never take it off.
