No Sahara on the agenda. The BRICS refused South Africa’s clumsy attempts to include the subject of the Sahara on the agenda of a meeting devoted to the Middle East and North Africa region.
The BRICS grouping, meeting in Moscow, and which Algeria had desperately tried to join, but without success, when new members joined, simply did not give a platform to South Africa, whose delegate was specially responsible for promoting separatism in Morocco and that of the Polisario.
It is obvious that the axis of evil, Algiers-Pretoria, was going to attempt this maneuver during a meeting of this importance. South Africa, which joins the separatist theses promoted by Algeria concerning the Moroccan territory of the Sahara, has begun to play the same idiotic game that Algiers is desperately trying to play.
Including the subject of the Sahara with the supposed right to self-determination of peoples and the false Sahrawi Arab Republic (whose capital is Tindouf in Algeria), in any regional or international conclave, is now a usual practice.
But this time, the opposition came directly from Russia which took a position on this subject, although the country for a time leaned towards the Algerian thesis. However, since the war in Ukraine, the two states have experienced palpable tensions that are still felt today.
The South African Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs was simply refused his proposal given that the majority of BRICS member countries do not share the position of the Algiers-Pretoria axis and do not want to interfere in the internal affairs of Morocco.
Russia was among the first countries in the economic grouping to reject the South African proposal, saying it had no place on the agenda and did not deserve to be addressed. But the position rejecting the inclusion of the Sahara as a subject to be addressed was common to all BRICS member countries.
Indeed, other more important and serious subjects were discussed by BRICS members. The question of the Sahara, an artificial conflict set up from scratch by Algeria, had no place there. The meeting discussed the situation in Sudan, Gaza, the stability of the Middle East and the political situation prevailing in the region.
This space is precisely of capital importance following the recent tragic events in Palestine, and the war waged by Israel, and weighs on all other subjects because of the play of influences that exist.
As a reminder, new members have entered the BRICS economic pole, like Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, which are countries that have distinguished themselves by their fervor in defending integrity. territorial territory of Morocco and their support of its complete sovereignty over the Sahara. The diplomats of these two Gulf States made the cause of the Moroccan Sahara their own before the UN on several occasions, and it was obvious that they were not going to allow South Africa to make a speech anti-Moroccan.
Russia also, which wants Riyadh and Abu Dhabi to be full members, understood the sensitivity of the subject for these two capitals and did not want to threaten the cohesion of its group to please Pretoria.
