Thailand on alert as storm approaches – Labass.net

Thailand’s meteorological department issued a warning on Wednesday of an approaching tropical depression that is expected to sweep across the country from Friday to Monday.

Already hit by torrential rains that caused flooding, landslides and the death of 43 people, Thailand is bracing for the storm as several areas of the country remain flooded.

Specifically, Thailand’s Meteorological Department said the storm is heading west of the country at a speed of 25 km/h. Various parts of Thailand, including the north, northeast, east, and south, as well as the capital, Bangkok, are expected to experience more rain and isolated heavy to very heavy showers from Friday, September 20 to Monday, September 23.

Weather experts initially predicted that the storm would only hit the northeast of the country, but its trajectory has since changed and it could hit central Thailand in particular.

The same storm is expected to make landfall in neighboring central Vietnam next Friday or Saturday, while it will bring isolated heavy to very heavy rains to various parts of Thailand starting next Friday.

The Thai Meteorological Department also said that the strong southwest monsoon prevailing over the Andaman Sea, the South and the Gulf will bring isolated torrential rains to the east and west coasts of the south of the country.
