In the 2010s, stories were popular. While ABC took advantage of the large catalog of Disney+ animated classics to offer a retelling of the adventures of Snow White, Rapunzel and even Frozen, The CW devoted itself to the remake of an 80s series led by Linda Hamilton . Once Upon a Time et The Beauty and The Beast were not the only representatives of this trend towards nostalgia tinged with romance and fantasy, the series Grimm also made the heyday of NBC in 2011. The legends popularized by Charles Perrault, Hans Christian Andersen and the Brothers Grimm were reinvented in the present and for an older audience.
Grimminitially promised to be a modest success given its broadcast on Friday evenings in the United States, quickly found a solid community of spectators. Its journey on the small screen will continue until 2017. Eight years after this grand finale, NBC and the Peacock platform are convinced that spectator interest has not waned. According to the very serious Deadline, a restart would be on the agenda for the coming years. According to sources interviewed by the American media, the historical showrunners would be involved. David Greenwalt and Jim Kouf would return accompanied by Josh Berman (creator of Drop Dead Diva). Together, they would work on developing a scenario to play out the extensions alongside (hopefully) the same characters. For now, the details of the plot remain very mysterious.
The start of a new saga?
We only know that many avenues are being explored. The idea would not be to address only early fans, but to bring together all fans of fantasy under the banner of the film for the Peacock platform. The return of the main actors is not assured, even if it is hard to imagine the company doing without such a poster to attract attention. Journalist Neilie Andreeva explains in the columns of Deadline : “It introduces a new mythology and new characters”. She adds that Peacock is even considering a little more. “If successful, the sequel could launch a franchise, from what I’ve heard”. The fact remains that in recent memory, productions of the genre have not all been unanimously acclaimed. We remember the failed return of Teen Wolf in 2023… Let’s hope that’s not what awaits Grimm. In any case, the series joins the long list of productions from the 2010s resurrected to ride on nostalgia.
