We thought she was unbeatable and yet, The Bridgerton Chronicles came across someone stronger than her. Arriving on June 21 on Netflix, the Spanish series The Coke Clans sent the Shonda Rhimes production to second place in the ranking of the most-watched series on the streaming platform.
With its clever mix of love story and revenge, The Coke Clans managed to touch the hearts of subscribers. What is she talking about ? It tells the story of Ana, a lawyer who is ready to do anything to avenge the murder of her father, murdered on a boat in Fuerteventura. As she investigates, the woman discovers that her father led a double life and was part of a Galician drug cartel. To achieve her goals, she will not hesitate to infiltrate the criminal gang.

Based on true events
Many of the drama series in Netflix’s catalog are inspired by real events. This is the case of Clans from Coke which looks back at Operation Necora, which was led by Judge Baltazar Garzon in 1990 and targeted major drug traffickers in Galicia, an autonomous community in the northwest of Spain known for hashish and cocaine trafficking. The trial only ended in 2004, almost 15 years later. Thanks to the testimony of repentant criminals, including Manuel Fernandez Padin, part of the network was dismantled and 51 arrests were made.
In terms of casting, we find Clara Lago (The Passenger) in the role of Ana and Tamar Novas (Nowhere, After you, chaos…), who plays Daniel Padin, one of the drug trafficking bosses in Galicia.
The Coke Clans is not the only Spanish series to appear in Netflix’s top 10. Not far behind, in fifth position, we find Not one moreseries carried by Nicole Wallace (Against the direction). VSit talks about adolescence, social networks and sexual assault.
