A fire broke out on Wednesday morning at the Swiss Krono AG site in Menznau (LU). According to the police, no one was injured. Some 240 firefighters from several corps are at work.
The fire started in a wood warehouse, said the Lucerne police, confirming information from Blick. In images and videos, flames several meters high can be seen.
“The whole building is on fire,” Vinzenz Graf, a township fire inspector, told PilatusToday. According to him, the fire broke out around 3:30 a.m. Since then, firefighters have managed to control the fire in a part of the warehouse where machines are located. The danger to other buildings has thus been eliminated.
However, the part of the building containing wood chips continues to burn with great intensity. One of the challenges for firefighters is having enough water. A connection with a four kilometer distant river is being installed.
Swiss Krono is active in the field of manufacturing and finishing wood materials.
