The RTS Audience Prize was awarded to Lorrain Voisard for “Au coeur de la bête” (Éditions d’en bas), this Sunday, November 24 at 4 p.m., as part of the show “Quartier Livre” (RTS Première), broadcast live from Nouveau Monde in Fribourg. The verve of his pen, his bold writing and the power of the theme that the author addresses impressed the jury and earned him the prize.
Over the course of 2024, the fourteen members of the jury read around forty works and met five times. They are happy to unveil today the winning book of the 2024 edition of the RTS Public Prize: In the heart of the beast by Lorrain Voisard, first novel published by Éditions d’En bas.
His poetic and documentary approach to literature led him to become involved In the heart of the beast. Voisard invites us on a gripping dive into the bowels of a slaughterhouse, through the eyes of an intellectual embedded within this small, very masculine society – which he observes without judgment.
Crude in its descriptions, the story seduced the jury by “the humanity which emerges from the social exchanges to which it testifies, by the poetry and the formal audacity of its narration, as well as by the absence of definitive judgment on the industry that he observes and describes”, indicates Nicolas Julliard, producer of the show Book District of RTS Première and president of the jury for the RTS Public Prize.
Endowed with 10,000 francs, the RTS Public Prize has supported Swiss authors or authors living in Switzerland since 1987. It is awarded by a jury of readers from all the French-speaking cantons, who explored around fifty works published during the year and participated in several deliberation sessions. It is one of the most important literary prizes in French-speaking Switzerland. Helping with creation, it promotes literature and demonstrates the passion for reading of listeners and viewers. Independent, this prize also highlights the role of cultural actor played for decades by the RTS in its public service mission.
