The opportunity was so good that we had to seize it! The Institute for Research and Development, which was established in in 1952 when it was still called Orstom, chose to move. The Department acquired the site, a set of 5 hectares, with 15 buildings representing 10,000m2 of covered area, avenue Henri Varagnat in Bondy, near the de Bondy. The goal is to make it a center dedicated to the social and solidarity economy, a sector of the future already widely supported by the Department to the tune of 50 million euros per year.

ESS home port

This place is intended for a crossroads between the different actors of the ESS of Seine-Saint-Denis and the public. The project is to bring together occupants, associations and businesses in order to help create synergies and encourage mutually beneficial exchanges. This place is not only intended for tertiary activities, production companies will be welcome there. And for the public, reception services are planned, as are sports areas, catering… The ambition is to encourage spontaneous practices, to be open both to companies and associations and to the public of the department as well as the neighborhood.

It is expected that the IRD will leave the premises in September, leaving room for installation at the end of 2025. The adventure of the social and solidarity economy is gaining momentum in Seine-Saint-Denis!
