More than 80,000 Quebec homes were in the dark Tuesday morning due to outages on the Hydro-Québec electricity network, while extreme cold rages in the province.

The vast majority of the approximately 80,000 outages were recorded in Montreal, where more than 74,000 households were without electricity.

The Outaouais and Montérégie regions also suffered, since some 3,353 households and 1,404 Hydro-Québec customers were waiting to be reconnected.

Dozens of outages were recorded in other regions, notably in the Laurentians, Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean, Centre-du-Québec, and Lanaudière.

Despite the bitter cold, Hydro-Québec agents continued their work Tuesday morning to restore electrical power in the regions affected by the outages.
