With its Most Beautiful Villages in France label, Tournon-d’Agenais wishes to continue in this line. With the support of technicians from the departmental council and the State through the Villages of the Future system, elected officials reflected on what Tournon will be like tomorrow. A first file was drawn up to develop a garden at the foot of the bastide
The municipality acquired the garden of Sabine Oulières located on the left side, on the descent of the Côte des Oies. If at first the elected officials had imagined making it a parking place for vehicles, this idea was quickly forgotten to make way for a garden. This land, nestled between the walkway and the traffic lane, has several levels, three natural terraces that need to be redesigned. Benefiting from the support of the Council for Architecture, Town Planning and the Environment, elected officials were able to take stock of the existing situation in order to design this project. This 2,700 m² plot of land has several stone walls and a well that needs to be rehabilitated, as does the retaining wall of the Chemin de patrol located above. A major project which will be the basis of this development. Cleaning work was undertaken, while preserving existing plants, shrubs and fruit trees, thus promoting the biodiversity of the area. The early flowering of snowdrops is a good example of this. The other strong point of this plot of greenery is the presence of an attribution, a small building inherited from the past which marked the tax collection point to enter the bastide. It should be noted that the Côte des Oies, from where we can see this stone construction, was the only access to the bastide before the construction of the town tour road. From this vestige, the access door is still visible today, a vault topped by a room under which one can pass to access a staircase leading directly into the garden.
A new access
Ultimately, a pedestrian path will be designed from the motorhome stop, near the cemetery, will pass by the fountain path and lead directly to the new garden where a staircase will be installed to access the walkway, opposite from the Porte des Pénitents. Another way to connect the bottom of the village to the bastide by a gentle connection, while enjoying the surrounding landscape. Achievements which will emerge as the municipal budget and the allocation of subsidies progress.
