Anderlecht does not hit the jackpot: “I expected a higher price”

Anders Dreyer is set to transfer to San Diego FC for 5 million euros, plus 500,000 euros in bonuses. A fairly low price for a Danish international involved in 54 goals in two years for the Brussels club. In the United States too, we are surprised to see such a good player leave for such a small sum.

MLS specialist Tom Bogaert spoke to Danish media outlet Aftonbladet. He said he was surprised to see Anderlecht let go of their winger so easily.

A good deal

“I knew San Diego FC were looking for players in the €5 million price range. Dreyer is in his prime and performing well in Europe, so I expected him to leave for a larger amount. To be honest, I’m quite surprised.”

It is clear that Anderlecht could have been a little more greedy when we see that players like Hugo Cuypers and Joseph Paintsil joined the MLS for 11 and 8 million euros respectively.

A good thing for MLS

“Dreyer is a great signing for San Diego. He’s an indication of what MLS will look like in 2025. Some still think that this league only attracts players at the end of their careers, but that is no longer the case “To see a 26-year-old player arrive, playing for a good club like Anderlecht, is a very good thing,” concludes Bogaert.

In San Diego, Dreyer will have to form an attacking trio with Hirving Lozano (ex-PSV) and Marcus Ingvartsen (ex-Genk). The new MLS franchise would also like to attract Kevin De Bruyne next summer.
