A history-geography teacher from Montbéliard (Doubs) was threatened with death by a 13-year-old schoolgirl after showing Charlie Hebdo caricatures in class on January 8, the Besançon Academy confirmed to CNEWS this Tuesday . The teenager was provisionally suspended pending a disciplinary hearing. A complaint has been filed.
A case that brings back dark memories. In Montbéliard, in Doubs, a history and geography teacher was threatened with death after showing caricatures of Charlie Hebdo during a civic education course, CNEWS learned from the Academy of Besançon, confirming a information from our colleagues in the Republican East.
The events occurred in a college in the Pays de Montbéliard on January 8, the day after the tribute paid to the victims of the Charlie Hebdo attack in 2015. The professor presented three Charlie Hebdo caricatures as part of the course. An initiative that would not have benefited a student who felt that it was not necessary to “show caricatures”.
But the affair took another turn eight days later, Thursday January 16. That day, this same schoolgirl approached the teacher, telling him that a “high school student is going to come [le] kill because[il a] showed caricatures,” according to comments reported by our colleagues.
The student suspended and summoned to court
Faced with these threats, the teacher informed his superiors and the student in question was summoned by the establishment.
-Following the explanations of the Besançon Academy to CNEWS, the hierarchy encouraged the teacher to file a complaint, offering him support linked to functional protection. This concerns in particular legal support, payment of legal costs as well as psychological support.
The Besançon Academy also clarified to CNEWS that functional protection is granted “systematically”. “It is granted systematically without teachers having to ask for it when they are threatened in the exercise of their function,” we are told.
For his part, the student will be summoned by the Montbéliard judicial court following the facts. She is currently in protective measure pending the holding of her disciplinary council.
She is no longer part of the establishment and has been temporarily excluded, underlines the Academy of Besançon, adding that the disciplinary council will rule on the facts.
